PMQ Taste Academy (also known as PMQ Taste Kitchen), a project hosted by PMQ and supported by Twins Kitchen, is honored to receive the Grand Award of DFA Design for Asia Awards, one of the most prestigious design awards in Asia. The DFA Design for Asia Awards recognizes design projects and creative talents that enhance the quality of life in Asia across four design disciplines, with the Grand Award being the top award category given for design excellence.

Some 187 Asia Awards were given this year. Among them, 10 designs, including PMQ Taste Kitchen, were chosen as Grand Award winners. Tai Kwun by The Jockey Club CPS Limited, Sony Corporation’s Aibo robot dog, and Jin Niu Shan Trans-Urban Connector in Fuzhou, China are some of the fellow awardees of DFA Design for Asia Grand Awards 2018.

Being Hong Kong’s first Food and Beverage Incubator Program, PMQ Taste Academy -- an innovative initiative created and fully supported by PMQ -- is a project created to nurture up-and-coming culinary talents in Asia and hope to foster diversity and creativity in Asia’s food and beverage industry.

As Mr. William To, Creative Director of PMQ, mentioned in the ceremony, the success of PMQ Taste Kitchen is a collective effort by various parties. That includes PMQ for the creative and location support, Twins Kitchen for the culinary and operation support as well as Ida & Billy Architecture Ltd. for their well-thought-out interior design, and most importantly, the full support from Mr. Victor Lo, GBM, GBS, JP.

“Comparing to other designs, Food Design is a relatively new and rising trend in Asia. Food Design isn’t just about serving delicious food. It’s to use food as a relatable medium to curate a memorable experience and to spread a meaningful message. So it was a pleasant surprise for us as it’s uncommon for an independent restaurant to be bestowed such an important design award. PMQ Taste Academy isn’t, technically, a restaurant. It’s a platform to help talented chefs make their dreams come true in the best way possible. It’s a free space for them to explore and build the best food concepts in town,” added Caleb and Joshua Ng, founders of Twins Kitchen and operators of Taste Kitchen.

Since the beginning of the project in December 2017, PMQ Taste Academy has guided 12 innovative dining concepts. In the short span of less than a year, two of the incubatees have already taken the next step and have successfully opened a new well-curated restaurant in town.

Some of the previous winners of the DFA Design for Asia Grand Awards include iPod digital music player (2003), Eslite Bookstore Kaohsiung FET Store (2004), Ish Magazine (2005), Romancecar 50000 VSE (2006), UNIQLO UT Store Harajuku (2007), iPhone 3G (2008), The Grand Forbidden City (2009), Dyson Air Multiplier™ fan (2010), West Kowloon Bamboo Theatre (2013) and The Edible Business Card (2017).
